Study of Winter Cactus by Carolyn Jean Thompson

Cactus plants are both smooth and textured. To portray this, I used watercolor wash and watercolor pencils for the underpainting. The final layer is wax-based colored pencils. To see more of my artwork and a pastel painting of the same subject, visit my blog here.
