"Bodie Sketch No. 2" by Carolyn Jean Thompson

8 x 10 watercolor pencil on paper

This is a study of an old, falling down building from a visit to the ghost town of Bodie, California.  Gold was discovered in the area in 1859 and a raucous mining town sprung up.  By 1879 Bodie had a population of 10,000 and was second to none for wickedness, badmen, and the worst climate out of doors."  It was abandoned when the gold ran out and it is now a California State Historic Park.

I used watercolor pencil for the detail and texture, and watercolor washes to bring out more color and contrast.  You can view more of my art by visiting my blog here.
